ATK Grand Opening
Minneapolis, May 20, 2009 - Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK) will celebrate the grand opening of its new Dayton facility at 1:00 p.m. on June 1, 2009, nearly one year after breaking ground on the project. The new facility will serve as the headquarters for ATK Aerospace Structures' Military Programs which employees a staff of 140 and produces composite structures for the F-35 Lightning II, B2 Bomber and other U.S. Department of Defense programs.
The new ATK facility has 125,000 square feet of space and will consolidate five different locations from across Greene and Montgomery counties. ATK will expand its capabilities by increasing its footprint in Dayton by 40,000 square feet, allowing the installation of a new 10' diameter autoclave for the fabrication of large composite structures such as radomes, and a new state-of-the-art anechoic chamber for antenna RF and RCS measurements.
"This facility will allow us to increase our production capabilities, as well as grow our manufacturing research and development, and engineering capabilities, delivering more value to our customers," said Don Hairston, Vice President of Military Programs for ATK Aerospace Structures.
The facility is not only larger, but is also more efficient and environmentally friendly. The facility now uses reclaimed water for irrigation, has low-flow plumbing fixtures, and features high efficiency fluorescent lighting in the manufacturing area. Combined, these enhancements will provide reduced operating cost when compared to traditional processes and products.
ATK is a premier aerospace and defense company with more than 19,000 employees in 22 states, Puerto Rico and internationally, and revenues in excess of $4.6 billion. News and information can be found on the Internet at www.atk.com.
